About Mickael Maddison

Here's my story. I've been a casual songwriter for years but never believed my songs were anything more than a fun hobby.  I only played my songs at home for my family and on rare occasion for friends.  One day, just a few years ago, I reached a crossroads and decided to sell of my gear.  Fortunately for me, my wife reminded me that I had dreamed of recording my songs.  I figured this was good advice and I went ahead and found someone with some experience recording and producing.  I picked 6 of my songs and with the help and guidance of James Lipoth, the recording process began.  Not having much experience singing in front of people, I found I was terribly nervous.  Fortunately James was patient and kept pushing me out of my comfort zone.  Things were going well and although it was very hard, I was enjoying the process.I was about half-way through the the recording process when things took a turn that changed my life.  I had shared some of the early mixes of the songs with some friends and family; not expecting much more than polite appreciation and support.  I was surprised when friends suggested that the songs should be sent out to radio stations.  I had heard that a local radio station had started up a show featuring local musicians so I thought, what the heck, and sent a few samples.  The response blew my mind.  They wanted to do a feature on my project and put 2 of the songs into their rotation!  It was quite a rush to hear my music broadcast on one of the city's biggest radio stations.  I knew then that I had to release my music publicly so I released my first EP in stores and online in stores like iTunes. Up to this point I had never really performed.  I had no real experience singing in public and wasn't confident that I could or even should play live; but that too had to change.  I was asked to perform for a local festival and knew this was an opportunity I couldn't afford to waste.  Before I knew it I had a 3 piece band.  Since then I've gone on to record a 10 song album, had songs air on dozens of stations, sold numerous CD's and downloads, and performed at all sorts of events and venues.  I did end up selling my guitar amp, only to replace it with gear more suited to my needs. So now the question I face is "Where do I go from here?"  I'm enjoying this new chapter of my life.  I'm starting on my next CD and playing live shows regularly.  I'd love to see how far this can go.  Will I get more airplay?  Will people keep buying my songs online?  Will I get to play the big stage someday?  Will I ever do music full-time?  Whatever the outcome may be I'm meeting interesting people, becoming more confident in my abilities, and having a great time along the way...

My latest TV Interview

By Mickael Maddison - Posted on 04 March 2011

I've had quite a few opportunities to be in front of TV cameras lately, many of these coming from events surrounding the Race to a Million program that I've been participating in.

In this latest interview with Paul McLellan, host of "The Stir" on Shaw TV, I was surprised at how much research he had done. He knew how things started and most of the musicians I've worked with as well as the works they've gone on to. I found this made things quite interesting as he made me realize how deep the pool of talent I've been working with really is.

Interview on Shaw TV

As part of this Race to a Million project I'm involved in, I was asked to do an interview. It was a great experience sitting there talking to Dean; answering questions and sharing some of my thoughts on. One thing I learned here is that under the spotlight it's easy to get mixed up and spit out the wrong facts and figures (oops)! We'll see if anyone spots the mistake... well I know there's at least one person that will!
