Rookie Writer Needs Help Publishing

I have just finished a book for teens which is a self-help type that addresses teen issues and assists them in making good decisions. It is a small book so as not to intimidate the younger reader and is intended to be read as a family. It deals with issues such as self-esteem, smoking, drugs, relationships etc.

My problem is that I am getting information from everyone and nothing is consistant. I don't have a lot of money to throw at this project but it's great information that can change teen's lives and as a result the lives of their families as well.

If anyone can point me in the right direction to either a way to cheaply self publish or recommend a publisher that would be amazing. I live in the Calgary area so if anyone has any ideas please feel free to send them my way.

Thanks.
Jane

Google..."canadian publishers" and read their guidelines as to which ones publish these kinds of books....then start sending out your manuscript...good luck!!!

That's such a great accomplishment writing a book that will be useful for young people.
I don't have any direct suggestions re publishing but I was wondering if you have had any contact with the Alexandra writer's centre in Calgary. They can be found at alexandrawriters.org , they put out a monthly newsletter and offer lots of peer support to writers. Also the Calgary public library usually has a writer in residence who might have some suggestions. Next fall there will be a children's book fair www.calgarybookfair.com which might be a great place to network and get suggestions regarding publishing.
Have you checked out the possibility of any types of grants from government or non profits who are devoted to youth?
Best of luck to you and I would love to read your book.
