"Dancing With The (This Is It) Stars" -- to help Haiti.
I was privileged to join Flash Mob America in a public performance of Michael Jackson's 'They Don't Really Care About Us', held recently at the beautiful Hollywood & Highland square, next to the Kodak Theatre, where the Oscars are held each year. That's me on the right hand side of the mob, about 4th row back, with short, curly blonde hair, black pants and black sweater with white rope and blue/grey pattern. We had about 80 dancers in total, raising over $3,000 for Haitian relief.
Travis Payne, choreographer for Michael's This Is It concert and two of the dancers from the show, Daniel Celebre (from Nobleton, Ontario!) and Dres Reid led us in the dance, with the choreography Travis and MJ had created for that piece in the show. It was an experience I'll always treasure; a huge honor and enormous fun to dance with them, and then have the chance to chat afterwards. The guys were super, and very effusive in speaking about their experiences working with MJ.
Daniel grew up in town near to mine in small town Ontario, so we had one of those "How did we end up here?" moments. He's a sweet guy and so gracious and happy about sharing the joy this job brought his way. Thank you and God bless you, Dan!
The CBS program 60 Minutes, did an update on relief efforts in Haiti. The need for help is still so great. Over 50,000 children are orphaned or still separated from their families. Virtually all schools and orphanages were destroyed. If you'd like to continue helping, donations are still needed through organizations such as the Red Cross (www.redcross.ca), Oxfam (www.oxfam.org) and World Vision (www.worldvision.ca). You will help so many people!
These are difficult to watch, but I'm including two pieces from the program 60 Minutes about conditions in Haiti, the first made 5 days after the quake, the second aired March 21. You can see how badly they continue to need our help -- and will for years to come.

That is really cool. How do people learn the dance or know when the flash mob is going to happen?
Peg

Hi Darold: Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, there was quite a bit of both individual and group rehearsal. The 'Drill' -- for more experienced dancers -- was trickier to learn, but a fun challenge. Hope all is well. Cheers,
Annabel.

Hey Annabel,
I love your post and the video you've included! Congratulations an following your passion and joining in such a worthy cause. I've watched the video a few times now and saw you a few times but my favourite is the shot that travels past you on a medium close-up. How cool! How long did you rehearse the dance before you performed it? I hope you get to dance with the mob again real soon.
Great job and thanks for sharing and thanks for helping the folks in Haiti.
Cheers,
Darold

Anne,
What a fantastic experience and what a great cause!
You've been doing so many exciting things what's next on the road to your dream?
Hi Cathy! Thanks for your kind words. I'm back in Calgary to work on a contract, take a music theory course and continue working on singing/songwriting and learning more about how the music business works. How about you? What's next on the road to your dream? Hopefully we can catch up over coffee.
cheers,
Ann

It would be great to get together for a coffee or dinner in the latter part of April.

That was awesome...must have been so exciting to be a part of it. And best thing is that money raised will go a long way to help the suffering.
It was a very exciting experience! Wishing you the best with your writing dreams. Writing is the best. You can create a world on a piece of paper -- or a lap top!
God Bless!

Hi
Hey just saw the video......WHAT CAN I SAY.....that was great. What a rush..you must have of been in heaven. Keep doing what your doing.
Thanks for your lovely note, Dave. Yes, it was a terrific experience. The best part is seeing the look of stunned surprise on the faces of people in audience, when the mob starts, and that watching that turn into big smiles all around. It made performing so much fun! Congrats on all great video you've shot for D&P -- it looks fab. BTW - I vote for image #5 in your photo contest. Fingers crossed for you!
Cheers,
