Long before anyone told me, I'd seen the writing on the wall, my first day at Playboy. A huge monolith of signs, this publishing relic weighing 2 tons, which no man or woman could pry from Hef’s sticky vision. Stuck in a time warp, once a maverick, now a speck in the sea of publishing. Say hello to the millennials, Hef. THEY dictate what’s important. Not you anymore.
In anticipation of PLAYBOY closing it’s doors, I kept a vigil eye out for creative remedies. A shark. Always moving. A self-proclaimed artist, I paint stories on behalf of others. This out-of-the-box idea named ZIPZ® was it!. With necessity driving me forward, they dubbed me Creative Director, and I earned it.
[*SIDEBAR: In my youth I wore OCEAN PACIFIC brand tees. The Kraken of lifestyle apparel. Love at first sight. OP was the brand I loved. The California dream, printed on a soft cotton tee. OP inspired my future as a creative in fashion and apparel. It inspired my ZIPZ® story.]
During my 8 year tenure at ZIPZ®, I had the opportunity to wear dozens of hat, improving my creative, communication, and directing skills, crafting stories on behalf of this clever idea with potential to influence retail. At ZIPZ®, I was creative director, art director, illustrator, writer, photographer, director, and editor; a one-stop creative shop. Packaging, shoe design, branding, artwork, aesthetics, POS, shelf-talkers, trade show booths and promotionals, photo shoots, video, web sites, copy, sell sheets. You name it, I made it. Thought it. Sang life into it. Like a mermaid to the sailors.
My vision for the brand can be found on the SOUL [sole] of the shoe, which I first wrote on a napkin: “Change your shoes. Change yourself. Change the world”.

ONE OF CHICAGO’S NATIVE SONS TRADES STARS FOR BUBBLES
With International Star Registry in the bank, Rocky Mosele tastes a new flavor of #Success

⚡ The Challenge International Star Registry, aka Rocky Mosele, contracted our studio’s creative nerve for their latest product launch; Caffeinated Club, club soda with a kick of caffeine. We said #yes, and added a heavy dose of digital savvy.
The project was simple. The execution was delightful; 20 original photo portraits, designed for over 200 JC Decaux CTA bus stops, in print and digital, for a winter media buying blitz. Testimonials, by young Chicago urban socialites, with a mix of local celebrities like former Playmate and Social Columnist at Chicago Tribune, Candace Jordan, Kelly Rizzo, part-time VHS1 talent and host of eattravelrock.com, and social TV host Jeff Conway of the SCENE Network on channel 392. Caffeinated Club wanted to reflect the brand’s youth oriented approach as an alternative to coffee and a healthy substitute with a bubbly fizz. The client loved the storyboards so much it grew into thirty-five posters, created to match the personalities and their story.
⚡ How We Made ItIn a one month turnaround, we created, designed, photographed, developed, and delivered all thirty-five 4’x6’ 4-color process, back-lit poster prints that covered the city of Chicago in JC Decaux bus shelters, 35 digital boards in 3 sizes, 35 digital boards for 360º, and 35 for JC Decaux outdoor digitals, with matching car wraps and magazine advert content, distributed from the gold footage created on a 2 day shoot event, hosted in our original and unique TD+PS studio.
DYNAMIC DUO | WE ON
LORD NETTY + K-DAVID MAKE FOR A HEROIC PAIRING
From a musical #kingdom, once forgotten, these Gary Indiana artists are forging ahead amidst the struggle of time
Story by ©2016 @ScottyRocks. All Rights reserved
I needed to make a music video. My FIRST music video. I don’t know why, other than I simply love music. R&B is my favorite genre, in any flavor. I have experience in front and behind the camera, which helped. I asked these two performers, Lord Netty + K David, if I could make their first music video, and they said #yes.
WE ON [https://youtu.be/wPH6yD3DvSc] was selected for CIMMFEST [www.cimmfest.org} and premiered on in the Logan Square Theater. Since launching the video in January, its received nearly 75,000 views. Not bad for a project that cost $500 to create and produce. *Warning: the song is highly sticky, and contains adult language!
How I Made It⚡
With only 2 days, 4 people, and select locations in Gary, In. and Chicago, IL, we shot and produced this stylish music video. See the extended version on our Vimeo channel, here; https://vimeo.com/152383666. The intro to the video was shot entirely on my iPhone 6s, then edited on my Macbook in a Starbucks. WE ON was recently purchased under first rights by a major movie studio, Alcon/Sleeping Giant Studios [Makers of Dolphin Tale 1 + 2]. The song can be downloaded here; https://itun.es/us/t6Rb_, or here; https://m.soundcloud.com/arthur-lord-netty-davis/lord-netty-w-k-david-we-on/s-AZd7h.
It was my story and concept, based on the song’s message, with storyboards, location scouting, acting like a stylist one moment, art director the next, and executive producer through out. I collected a few like-minded friends with talent, and we got busy. Style boards, art, typography, photography, branding, story, concepts, came out of The DOG + PONY studio. In betweeen takes and shots, we also designed a social strategy and posted for 3 months as the video project was underway, from start to finish. We used footage and takes from the shoot to drive content and conversation, supporting the authenticity of their story, and sharing with like-minded indviduals. “If you build it, they will come”. And this DYNAMIC DUO, two dads with talent and drive, trusted us to do something special with their song. Give it lift. I think we did.

IF I'VE LEARNED ANYTHING ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY it is simply this: the lust is never satisfied. Plateaus are friends. Looking is easy. Staying in the moment is not. Photography helps me reflect. It gives me clarity. On things that matter. Like family. And love. Balance. Truth. And nature. Life in action. Captured.
Photography has been my savior. A tiny example of what I imagine God sees through the layers of her creation. Photography has no judgement. Only revelation. Photography is #POLISH on the #SHINE of #LIFE.

These are the days of my training. I walked in the doors of Playboy in 1997, and never looked back.
16+ years at the Bunny was MY #masters program in #ART + #DESIGN. Photography, art, design, illustration, style, sculpture, entertainment, singers, dancers, models, actors, liars, wannabees, editors, boyfriends, drama, and music. My time at 680 was a long dance. Ebb + flow. Desire + discipline. Humility + freedom.
Dreams come true when you believe.
Or you're lucky enough to catch the 4:20 leaving out of Chicago.
Behind these faces are the authors of laughter and tears.

This is Laudville. A small startup that found me just as the doors were shutting behind me at PLAYBOYf.
They were my first client, "post-print", and I dropped in like a ranger to solve their immediate branding needs. We began by identifying their gamification of non-linear search + suggested results, a mini-artificial intelligence, based on books, movies, tv, music, and food. A lifestyle mix and match depot where like-minded enthusiasts rate and contribute to an index that shareable in and out of the community. The creative posted here are just some of the communication tools we built as they developed their digital product in the background.

CHRIS KELSCH BIO
Improvisational comedy is a major asset in my acting foundation. I’ve studied with the likes of Stephen Colbert and Nia Vardalos, when they performed at Second City Northwest. My study has continued with the country’s finest improv teachers at the famed iO (formerly ImprovOlympic), the Annoyance Theatre [Mick Napier], and The Second City Training Center. I create and produce digital shorts, in addition to my other skills, allowing me to work with Chicago’s funniest writers, actors, and directors. "Working with Scott Anderson has been the catalyst for my next stage as an accomplished actor. He allows me the freedom to live in the moment. Then he captures it." – Chris Kelsch, Chicago Actor
WHEN THE LATE-SHIFT CLOWNS CLASHED
A-list writer + entertainment observer Bill Zehme wrote an intertesting editorial on what eventually divided the two talk show Giants and brought them to blows.
“Wouldn't it be cool if there was a photo showing the two of them about to trade blows?” It was an immediate idea I clung to, then pursued.
We called in a cast of actors to represent Jay + Conan stand-ins for the idea. Some styling, a nice suit or two to match their personal gravitas, and boom! A little photo magic. With some trial and error, I threw down some heavy photoshop tricks and crafted this little photo concept into something visual and entertaining, matching the wit and warmth of Bill's humorous take on the scuffle.
Of all the work I created for #PLAYBOY, this is one of my faves.

BrainBall® is the invention of Patrick Losasso, an old friend of mine from back in my Second City Training days. He asked me to improve his previous branding with something more commercial. This was a personal project, and I took it from concept to production. Patrick promotes and sells his exercise tools through his online shopping and social destination.
“As a Trainer and Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Patrick has studied many secretly held techniques from well known exercise specialists, combining and then validating these methods into easy to follow exercise workouts for athletic individuals, elite athletes as well as seniors and individuals living with neurological involvement such as Parkinson’s Disease, MS, TBI’s and Stroke. Patrick is the creator of the BRAINBALL® and the BRAIN + BODY BAR®.”
